🌿 Reiki FAQ

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or hands-above) energy healing practice that channels universal life force energy to support your natural ability to heal. Developed by Mikao Usui in Japan, it works across physical, mental, and energetic levels to bring you into balance and ease.


I am a Level 3 Certified Reiki Healer, trained in Rishikesh and rooted in the traditional teachings of Mikao Usui, whose system of Reiki aligns with ancient energy healing practices believed to have origins in India and the Himalayan region. 

How Does Reiki Work?

We are made up of more than just our physical body. In Reiki, we acknowledge three core layers:

  • Physical Body – Our muscles, bones, and organs.
     
  • Mental/Emotional Body – Our thoughts, emotions, memories.
     
  • Energetic Body – Our chakras, aura, and vibrational field.
     

Reiki works by gently clearing blockages and recharging your energetic body—a part of you that is often overlooked but deeply influences your health, mood, and vitality.


When energy becomes imbalanced or stagnant due to stress, emotional suppression, trauma, or chronic exhaustion, it can show up physically as:
– muscle tension
– headaches
– digestive issues
– low immunity
– fatigue
– hormonal imbalances


Mentally and emotionally, you might feel:
– anxious or easily overwhelmed
– emotionally stuck or reactive
– mentally foggy or disconnected
– like you're “on edge” or in constant fight-or-flight


Reiki helps restore the natural flow of life force energy, allowing your body to move out of survival mode and into a state of deep rest and repair. As the energy field is cleared and balanced, clients often feel a sense of lightness, clarity, emotional relief, and renewed inner calm—like a reset for the entire system.

What Are the Benefits of Reiki?

Is There Any Science Behind Reiki?

 Yes. Though subtle, the effects of Reiki are being supported by growing scientific research.

 Studies show Reiki may:

  • Reduce stress hormones like cortisol.
     
  • Lower blood pressure and heart rate.
     
  • Improve heart rate variability (HRV), linked to nervous system health.
     
  • Support pain relief, mood stability, and recovery from fatigue.
     
  • Activate the parasympathetic nervous system, shifting the body from "fight or flight" to "rest and restore."

What Does a Reiki Session Feel Like?

You’ll lie down fully clothed with an optional blanket on top while I place my hands gently on or above specific points. Clients often describe a feeling of warmth, tingling, emotional release, or deep calm. Some drift into sleep, others see colors or feel energy moving. Each session is unique, and all sensations are valid. 

Is Reiki Religious or Spiritual?

Reiki is spiritual but not religious. It doesn’t require any particular belief system and is practiced by people from all walks of life. It complements any worldview or healing journey and simply connects you back to your natural state of balance. 

Is Reiki Safe?

Absolutely. Reiki is non-invasive, painless, and safe for everyone—adults, children, elders, pregnant people… even animals.


In fact, I regularly practice Reiki on my puppy, Koko. Animals are naturally sensitive to energy, and Koko often becomes calm and relaxed during sessions. Reiki can help pets with anxiety, healing after illness, or simply to feel safe and grounded. It's a beautiful example of how energy transcends words and speaks directly to the nervous system.

How Often Should I Do Reiki?

That depends on your needs. Some clients book monthly sessions for maintenance and clarity. Others come weekly during times of stress, illness, or transition. Even one session can offer noticeable relief and reset. 

Why I Combine Reiki with Sound Healing?

While Reiki gently restores energetic balance, sound healing adds a powerful layer of vibrational medicine. Each frequency used—through Tibetan bowls, tuning forks, or other instruments—interacts directly with the body’s cells, brainwaves, and energy field.

Sound penetrates deeply into the nervous system and helps shift your brain from a stressed, overactive state (beta waves) to a more relaxed, meditative state (theta or alpha waves). This amplifies the healing effects of Reiki by:

  • Enhancing energy flow through vibrational resonance
     
  • Helping the body release stuck emotional energy more easily
     
  • Supporting deeper relaxation, which allows Reiki to work more effectively
     
  • Realigning your energetic field with harmonic frequencies
     

Together, Reiki and Sound Healing create a multi-sensory, multidimensional healing experience that supports body, mind, and spirit. Most clients find the combination to be more grounding, soothing, and transformative than either modality alone.

How Does Reiki Help Me Personally??

Alongside running Fit To Be a Strong Leader, I serve as a healthcare director—a role that often involves long hours and complex, people-centered decisions. I also prioritize my physical well-being and deeply value time with my loved ones. In the midst of it all, Reiki has become my grounding force—helping me stay centered, calm, and connected to myself. 


It helps me stay emotionally grounded, focused, and connected to myself even when life feels overwhelming. Instead of getting caught up in stress or reacting from a place of urgency, Reiki gives me the space to respond calmly and clearly, even when things pop up unexpectedly.


After a session, I feel more motivated, less emotionally charged, and better able to hold space for others—without burning out or disconnecting from my own needs. It’s not just something I offer my clients—it’s a vital part of how I care for myself,  and do what I do.
